It is today, Friday - the September 01, 2017, when I got up at 3.50 AM by His Grace, I have heard of showering sound, and hence I have opened my bedroom-window to check outside for any rain. Since, it has been raining for a week here in Beaumont - a city with a population of about 120,000 (one hundred and twenty thousands) in southeastern Texas, where I have been living, since 2009.
When I saw through the window, I noticed no rain outside. And, all plants were found still sleeping peacefully. Then, what is that sound being heard like drizzling? Curiously, I wanted to know about it. Oh, yes...yah, I found it then. It was the constantly seeping sound of water-flow from one of the water-pipes in my home. That is great! With a big hope of getting water, when I turned the tap fully, water started to flow good...and then very good! Wonerful! I cannot believe this. Yet, my joy really knows no bound! Why because, this is really a great thing in the morning today for us in Beaumont. Since, due to rising waters of the Neches River caused by Tropical Storm Harvey, the City of Beaumont has lost water-service from its main pump station, and its secondary water source.
And, the official report also says as, “There is no way to determine how long this will take to restore the system." Located near the Louisiana border on the Gulf Coast, the flooded Beaumont cannot determine when it will restore water supply, and hence this city of nearly 120,000 residents will be without water until after floodwaters recede, and officials can analyze the extent of the damage.
Yesterday was the first day in 10 years of my life here in the USA (First two years in Florida, and now in Texas, since 2009) that I didn't get water from my home water-pipe. I could not believe this. The day before yesterday, from my home water-pipe, I had thoughtfully collected some tap-water of about 40 gallons in 8 big containers, thinking of any emergency like drinking water problem or failure in water-supply to homes; in case, if occurred due to flood or water-blockage. To my surprise, it literally happened yesterday the same way as I thought of it. And, the local news said as, "There might be no water- supply even for a week in Beaumont." This is indeed an unacceptable one for us!
Yesterday, I was seriously looking for collecting some more water for our bathroom use from different places at the City of Beaumont, in case, if the previously stored water of about 40 gallons in my house would be finished quickly. But, I could not get it, even a single gallon of muddy water, despite a heavy rain to flood a day before! I couldn't understand this, and accept my failure as well in collecting even a roadside dirty water for my bathroom usages.
And, anyway, I felt later, as if I was still so fortunate enough. Since, I was able to buy enough water-packs for drinking from the food marketing place 'Kroger'. Yes...yesterday I have again brought some more extra cases of water for drinking, and now I have more than 50 gallons of drinking water for our use - both for cooking and drinking as well. And, regarding our food supplies, there is no problem for us. Since, by His Grace, we have two large packs of rice, each with 20 pounds, and all other necessary groceries for many moons, and other food-stuffs likes cookies, bread, fruit-juices, coconut-water-cans etc. even for a month.
And, again today, just now I have collected some more water, about 50 gallons of it from my house water-pipes for our bathroom use, in case, if water stops again today or later. Just now, I have finished my bathing for the morning today. And, after ten years of my life here in the USA, today is the first day that I haven’t used my shower-bathing, but a bucket and cup only as I used to do it in India, Maldives, and in Eritrea of the North-East Africa, where I served as a Physics Teacher under the UNDP - The United Nations Development Projects. Now, again I truly feel very good as usual! And, I hope Beaumont has already turned back to rejoice in a normal life like before. I do sincerely thank all great people, who have worked hard and smart to bring us water, and make us feel warm and happy now.

Yesterday, I have really learned a very big lesson that how precious even a single drop of water for life to exist on this planet, even it could be the muddy water! We ought to be very grateful enough to our great mother nature! The non-stop heavy rain for more than a week has almost washed away all kinds of pollutions in the atmosphere and land. Now, we truly feel that we are breathing a fresh and clean air. Our city, Beaumont is surrounded by several chemical industries and oil-plants.

Yes. Yesterday only, I have found this nature-truth in its entirety! All that credits goes to His Grace Feet only for making us feel fresh and joyful again today! Well. This kind of water issue is not a new one for me. Yes. I had already experienced it very well in India, Eritrea and Maldives, wherever I have served as a Teacher of Physics. But, I haven’t felt any adversity over there as I felt now here, since, I was a single by myself only in those countries, and used to live with this kind of water-scarcity more often. But, now I am here with my three kids and wife; and moreover, I have been enjoying the clean and perpetually fresh water supply for both cooking and bathing for ten years hear in the USA. This is the real talk like the sun rises in the morning!
Finally, I would like to share an important message here, which is very useful for all of us. We never know the worth of water till the well is dry. The water in our toilet is cleaner than nearly a billion people have to drink it. Thousands have lived without love, not one without water. To a Thirsty man, a drop of water is worth more than a sack of gold. Water Covers 2/3 of the surface of the Earth but Only 0.002% is Drinkable. If we won't want mental hydration, then we need to think about water conservation. Yes, please let us become a water-saver, and use it very properly with a high gratitude to our Divine Nature, and Care for Creations!

Thank you for sharing your experience with Harvey. Good to know your community was not impacted. I enjoyed reading Thirukkural and Arutpa pathigams related to water that you have shared.
One of the areas of my research is Climate Change and in particulaer stress due to water in Asian Peninsula. Did research in Tamil Nadu on water bodies and have the extent to which water and water sheds are abused.
The Vallalar events in USA is very good and will be good if it transcends north of the border in Canada as well.
